I’m thinking of doing this route, anyone done it recently? How bad is the rocky descent from Hollinsclough? Is it as bad as the beast? The videos online suggest not, but then we all know how that ends...
Thanks.
I wouldn't if I were you mate. There are far better routes in that book than that one. The linacre classic for eg is a cracker. Or the 5 dales loop, also a belter. The hollinsclough drops are shit and short. Plus the area all around is extremely muddy and at the bottom of great big hill.
They are fairly gnarly, quite big drops, short and sweet from what I remember.
Thanks for the feedback, maybe not this time then.
What recommendations do do you have for a 26ish km 800m climb route?
Thanks
In that area? When are you going? I'll mail you tomorrow with a gpx if you like. Will be after 8pm tomorrow though
Yeah, we fancy doing a white peak route for a change. We’re not going for a few weeks, so that’ll be great, thanks!
If its the Flash route that goes round Hollinsclough, as people have said its not that great. From memory there are 4 descents worth mentioning.
1st one is a mess to start as motorbikes have been down it, then get decent and rocky to the river.
2nd one is a fast grassy, jumpy track to another river (could be the same one)
3rd one is a fast double track
4th one is closed at the moment and has large boulders at the top and bottom. In the middle its rock drops, slabs and a bit techy. BUT very short.
Makes a 1/2 decent evening loop if you include HSE and 3 Shires but still very much an xc route with decent views off the tops.
There is quite a lot of road and if its wet its going to be very very wet and boggy.
Flash bar stores are nothing posh, but well worth popping in for a brew and a bite to eat. they do pints ot T and slabs of cake 😉
