Hi
My mate JP is setting up on his own after nearly 15 years guiding on wildlife and activity holidays in Africa. He's put together a cycle trip in his home South Africa for a client later this year and what with the Mountains, dirt roads, and high passes (as well as vinyards) I said this might be right up the street of people on here. It's over what is called the "Garden Route" to Cape Town and you couldn't ask for a more beautiful place to ride in.
Here is the link to the tour info on his new website: Africa Rising Tours: Garden Route Cycling Tour
I'd not normally post what is sort of an ad, but he really is a fantastic guide (we went diving and on marine safari with him in mozambique and ended up asking him to do an extension into the Kruger over the border in SA for us) and I want to help him get to carry on doing what he's passionate about, showing people the beauty of the countries of Southern Africa.
The itinerary he's built for this trip looks great with some of the big mountain passes found in the ABSA Cape Epic race (MTB) or the pro cycle races in SA, and if your other half isn't keen on the big climbs but wants to just enjoy the scenery JP has it all set up so you can hop on or off the support vehicle and bike trailer anytime, no need to guilt trip them up a climb they're not up for!
I can't make this trip (PhD is due about then!) or I'd definitely be joining in, but I'll put my money where my mouth is and say my wife and I and two friends will be commissioning him to do a trip in the North East of South Africa and into Botswana next year.
Oh and for the sake of clarity... I have no financial interest in Africa Rising, well except wanting a good friend to be able to keep doing what he loves.
