[Closed] Source for cheap Shimano chains and cassettes

My Heckler is sorely in need of a new chain and cassette.

I was planning on getting XT. But a quick look online shows that the collapse of the Pound against every other major currency has pushed the prices up to frightening levels. £75 for a cassette!

Anyway I managed to find it a bit cheaper. £62 for a chain and cassette from Merlin. Does anyone know of a cheaper source?

Alternatively I can get the SLX model for £48. Has anyone used these? What's the shifting like compared to XT?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Or £59.99 from the wooly hat shop. Reckon that will be the lowest you will find for XT stuff.

I bought an SLX cassette the other week for my HT as it was the same price as the XT one i got last year, the SLX is only fractionally heavier.

As for prices, try these XT Cassette for £47, SLX one for £36

Pair it with a KMC X9.93 Chain for £14 and you're laffin 😆

Not that I could see.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go for SLX from Merlin.

Why not, have you had prior dealings with them that turned sour? Or just internet based "knowledge" of other peoples problems?

Me and all of my riding buddies use them for most componenet & wheel based purchases, including re-building of bent wheels etc, not a single issue to report in 2 years.

The wife spent so much on ebay I ended up with a 10% discount voucher through paypal, used Merlin through ebay and got xt cassette for £40 and a few pennies! Bargain I thought until I realised she'd used my paypal account to pay for all her purchases, doh! 😳

Steve - no, real life experience... FWIW, even if it wasn't you'd just need to look at their ebay feedback to tell that there's an issue.

I have recently used action sports they have good prices but there is carriage to consider. Worth it if you buy a job lot.

Things might be about to get a bit cheaper with the revival of the £ against the $ and ¥

You reckon? What are the bets that it takes a long time for that to filter back through...
