In the form of the the latest edition of what Mountain bike

Fortunately I didn't pay for it as it was given to me as a gift subscription, but I wouldn't even wipe my bum with this latest edition. Millions of years of evolution with advanced communication skills and we get this.

And relax 😀

I've bought 2 copies of WMB this year and it really is toss these days. They keep banging on with 2 pages of stuff on how they test and why it's the best, but it just comes across as trying to justify itself and just filling pages. And then the tests then come across as totally arbitrary anyway, so what's the point of all the guff on how they test? MBR on the other hand is now way better than it used to be.

Harsh! Both publications have their downfalls perhaps but make for good reads in the loo with lots of short articles. Be grateful that they do not hand over what seems to be an ever increasing page count to the Torq guy telling us to get fit whilst not-so-subtly plugging his company.

Do other magazines offer a premiership gold card exclusive virtual executive lounge and wine club - or just the ones chasing the middle aged middle class pound?

Got my free copy of Dirt the other day. Is it just me who finds it very difficult to read due to the layout? The copy seems reasonable (could do with proof reading, much like Singletrack) but the tiny print in different coloured boxes just make it illegible.

I would buy Dirt occasionally if it weren't for this.

imo I don't think stw mag is quite as good as it used to be BUT wmb has definitely gotten pretty bad. My subscription expires this month and it won't be renewed (stw subs will though!).

Annoys me how all the mags have sucked up to the bike companies and now say £500 is good value for a fork, £2k is entry level for full sus etc.

Dirt makes up for the words, colour montage, spelling and punctuation with pretty much the one thing at which it excels - the photos!

I dunno, I used to find WMB kinda useful as a contributory read - as in 'telling me about stuff I didn't know, helping me to form my own opinions on what is and is not guff'.

Now that I think about it, though, I seem to have reached that stage where I feel I no longer need that kind of thing - I have the best bike for me, with the best combination of components, and until I come to buy more components or replace the bike, I don't need the kind of review it provides (is what my brain seems to be telling me). Whereas STW's more niche/ involved audience is where I guess I see myself - as someone who can appreciate a story about mountain biking without needing to know so urgently whether bike a is empirically better than bike b.

A small trip inside my head, that, hope you enjoyed it

I'm a little disappointed I am not reading a rant about someone pushing a jobby through your letter box
