Something relatively cheap would be nice. 100mm forks.

i'm in the process of doing this. just got an inbred summer season for use with 100mm forks. thought i'd go for the slacker to go with the shorter forks. it's at the shop now getting headset/forks plugged in. 🙂

thank you Jxl. technically it's the GF's but it was mine (still is) for ~2 yrs.

it's the cheapo version, Breath cro-mo, not the life. i think the soloist is also cheapo cro-mo but i wouldn't let it put you off. climbs well even with a shortish stem with the forks wound down to 100. frame becomes very lively on decents, absorbing lots of 'buzz' or abuse. used to run it around 120mm. a year of it's life it has been ragged around the alps.

it was, although, built with burlier wheels and tyres. those mavic things are 3/4 the size of the singletrack rims i had before and the conti mountain kings are pants (unless you live somewhere you can comfortably ride with 40psi to prevent pinching and NO RAIN or even damp)

The 30% off Rock Lobsters is a great deal - choose 853 or Alu.

Why would you want to go back to a hardtail?

It'll never last!

But I think an inbred would do the trick for you.

glenh - because they suit my riding style better and I am faster on one. They dont cost a fortune on maintenance either.

Ive got a Zaskar L.E. and a Pantera A.L. both are fantastic XC bikes and you should be able to pick one up secondhand at a decent price..
My bikes are still going stronge after 15 years plus.
I can highly recommend them.

Happy hunting

What's it for? If it's a complete all rounder then 456 Summer season if they have any left. For more jey stuff then the Rock Lobster Team tig 853. I've got both but still have to get the Nomad out on occasion.

Rock Lobster Team Tig 853 then. Crossmarks for extra dust kicking up ability.
