Hi,
As the thread title.
Lots of overgrown trails near me. The nettles have started, the brambles are starting to go over the trail and I'm looking for some socks to reduce the bleeding and tingling.
Last year I had the time to cut the buggers down on my favourite local trails, I don't think that's going to happen this year.
My ideal sock spec:
Black
Mid calf
Summer weight
Doesn't bobble at the very first bramble strike
Nettle proof
Not £££
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Have you tried On One Thickies before? I've been wearing the skull & crossbones black and the fluro orange splat ones recently for work and the odd pleasure ride in the heatwave.
I'm not sure 'sock' and 'bramble-proof' are compatible needs. Embrace the scars!
Get yourself on Sport Pursuit - and just order a random selection of whatevers on sale/cheap.
I found myself without any decent riding sock, something I'd ignored for years, and just did a bulk order of a load of cheap/discounted stuff, some brands I'd heard of, and some weird Euro stuff i'd not.
Got some crackers, including some mid length Alpine Stars socks which are my new faves and also are 100% colour matched to my Gravel Bike. Which means they are ace.
Thanks for the suggestions!
On One Thickies
I've had some of them, they were awesome in deep winter. I cannot imagine how sweaty my legs would be I those in mid summer!
Embrace the scars!
I've been doing that for years. I feel feeble this summer 😉
I might give the alpine stars a go. I had some seal skins on waterproof ones from sports pursuit and they were great, but Bobbled at their first bramble.
Dickies work socks.
Currently 99p for a pack of 3 pairs in Aldi.
Been my go to spring/summer/autumn socks for a few years.

I’m using dexshell thin waterproof, partly as after being giant hog weeded twice I bubble blister easily , partly as I go out early when the long grass is still wet and partly as having used them I’m finding them comfy, not too sweaty and just doing the job so haven’t bothered going back to normal socks (I use Nike football ones or Norfolk bekele, Nike fit me slightly better)
Thanks @ajantom!
I've bought 3 pairs of dickies for £5 on eBay. Hopefully that will save my shins, at least a bit!
