So woke to another morning of rain in morzine. After a week here, the mud's getting old so time to move.

Is there anywhere within a four or so hour drive that's experiencing good weather?

Head east. I just arrived in Zirbitzkögel (Austria) and the sun is shining.

Les Arcs area holds up much better to bad weather (lots more rock based trails out of the main resort)

forecast looks bad for next week, we used to pack up and go to Finale Ligure when the weather was like that in the alps (I'm talking climbing, but the MTB is just as good I believe).

Travelled over to la thuile today from les arcs in search of some dry weather, not only was it blazing sunshine, but the trails are unbelievable. Not sure of the distance from morzine but pretty sure it's under 4 hours.

We were in Courchevel for 4 days last week and it was very muddy and wet, with thick fog on Tuesday but the sun came out on Wednesday morning so we could finally see where we'd been riding.

OP was at la thuile last week for EWS. Andorra is a good shout, can go there on the way to Oviedo Craig.

I'm off there tomorrow for a week. Is it worth taking the road bike (& is the road riding any better than the MTBing when it's raining/muddy?)

We are heading down to camp in Bourg D'Oisans mid August.

Any ideas how it's been lower down (bottom of Alpes d'Huez 21 bends or near the mega depending on your slant 🙂 )

Not too keen on 2 weeks of wet camping with the kiddos.

Just back from Samoens where it rained every day for 7 days. And on the one dry, sunny morning they closed the chair lifts for no understandable reason whatsoever. Once closed, they won't make the decision to reopen at 1.30 - until 1.30!! (they told me on the phone). They can't even tell you if the lift will open at 1.30, until 1.30!!! Not impressed with Samoens I'm afraid.

So had a night camping at the lake in les gets and it was dry this morning, forecast looks like it won't last though so now set up in a cafe to watch the final day of the tour and check the road maps.

Had planned to drive round to chamomix then onto verbier but going by the storms forecast then that would be pointless as I'll be back in morzine next week so can try that plan after.

Done a couple of weeks in la thuille and yep, the trails there were awesome. One possibility is to head back that way but ride the la rosiere side and take in vailloire on the way and possibly val d'isere. Don't think that'll help the weather situation much but it'll be different mud.

To head to finale would be a bit of a trek and I'll be there end of the year anyway.

Ade, Weather near the mega was real bad, especially about the time of the mega, sure there's some pictures showing the extent of the mud somewhere. Not sure what it's like now.

Going to have a look into Austria.

Nobeer, gonna head to the Ayrshire alps before the Oviedo drive, shall let you know when.

I've moved up to Sion in Switzerland and had a cracking day in the sun, it's all so changeable though I think you just pick somewhere and see what happens. Had a day in Tignes last week in a bit of sun and a day in Pila that was dryish, and apart from that it's just been a sodden holiday! Forecast here is sun tomorrow rain in pm, rain weds then good rest of the week.

Maxtorque - it was the hotness flowing out of that zen guy in the 3rd photo that kept the clouds away!

I want to see that on the website!

You could also use the keywords "Any Dry Trails in Morzine" and "Where is it dry in the alps"

Wet day in Schladming today but there's a couple of good days forecast for this area this week. Going to try ride Saalbach tomorrow and Leogang Thurs.

Leogang looks like being a wet one.

Next weeks forecast looks a fair bit better but I'll be on the way back to sunny Yorkshire by then. Might try Bad Wildbad on the way home.

It's not constant rain in this area so you can still ride without getting soaked.

it is awesome there but gonna head Garda way and come back here in a week or two.

If you are camping, bare in mind that it is the high holiday season and a lot of the campsites are fully booked as the German and Dutch school holidays have started.

We're down in Alpe d'huez at the moment camping in Allemond. The trails above the tree line yesterday were dry and dusty with only a tiny hint of mud and we did one of the Enduro routes from Oz to Allemond this morning and was 80 percent dry although looked down one of the mega routes and there was a small river and a lot of mud! It started raining here this afternoon so they closed the lifts and Looking at the weather for tomorrow it looks wet everywhere. We're heading down to Vars as it's further south and the weather's been looking pretty good down there so hopefully will dry out quick when the sun comes out on Wednesday, fingers crossed!
