It has been suggested by a mate that a few of us do this year.
I am what I would say is moderately fit, but not a whippet, comfortable riding most stuff apart from real technical steep stuff
Is it worth doing for a long weekend?, what I have seen on line looks fun!
Any advice/abuse appreciated!
Ta
Yeah good run. Basically an XC ride with a few techie bits and rocks in there. Some up stuff, some down stuff and some minor jumpy stuff.
We'll be there ๐
When does it open and whats the best starting point?
What do folks usually do for accomodation. We plan to go out for a week, but from memory chalets usually run from saturday to saturday, meaning unless you are there the week before (when nothing is open) then you would arrive half way through the weekend, and can only ride the sunday.
You can ride any day you want, all 3 of them, just not part of the 'event' on the days you're not doing it so to speak.
It's only the Fri/sat Sun, entry is open on I think the 14th Feb, but we've pre-entered through our accommodation.
When you enter you elect to ride either the Saturday or the Sunday. Done it in 2008 and in 2000 when it was the Freeraid and was a timed event, cruise the linking sections and get a time for the 'mostly' dh sections...what? Enduro you say? That New thing?....
In 2000 did it on a Rotwild RDH and had already been there for a month guiding. Was a lot more DH and glad of the DH bike. Did it on a Pitch in 2008 and it was sound, lot more fire road climbing than there used to be though. Food and drink provided all the way round, its a good day on the bike.
Cheers guys I will be taking my pitch so that's Ok!
Hmm just need a pass out from her indoors then!
Its bloody great if theres a few of you. A right old laugh
Has anyone mentioned the infamous Goat of Morzine?
We did it last year with 3, this year it looks like 8 or 9. Good fun, great day of riding, not technically challenging but it feels epic even though you're uplifting most of the climbing. I'd avoid the Torgons extension though, the first section is bloody awful
Any recomendations of where to stay? Did Morzine in 2012, and would be tempted again if they ever get the pleny lift moving.
I'm thinking chatel might be a wee bit different?
Is the tactic to book now before everyone knows where they are starting from to get a decent place to stay, or is it better to wait until we know exactly where we're setting off from?
And lastly...we used apltitude last time, had a great wee chalet. Any other suggestions to try, including those wide afield than morzine.
Thanks

The new Pleney gondola opened before xmas.
I think its a grand day out in the moutains and together with a few extra days makes a great Alps weekend/intro to the Alps.
I've done it twice (and had to can an entry a third year). Entires open Feb 12 and popular start points (Morzine, Les Gets, Chatel) will sell out same day, especially for Saturday. A good weekend would be travel out Wednesday, spend Thur/Fri riding and do event Saturday and return Sunday. The easiest resorts to base yourself in are the three above, lots of trails and accommodation. If you want to start there I suggest you get organised and online on 12th (very frustrating it will be, make sure you have all the info you need). You can book accommodation/travel after. Some holiday companies have guaranteed places.
There are lots of threads, @weeksy did a good one and a write up of his experiences.
Edit: if you cannot get organised by Feb 12 the Swiss resorts sell out later (esp Torgon which is a one horse town and your last choice) and Fri/Sun are less popular.
Accommodation and tickets sorted. Don't even have to think about this until closer to the time now ๐
