Plugged charger into adaptor, plugged battery in. Walked out to the garage. Wife shouts my name. Literally as soon as I walked out of the kitchen the charger exploded and sent sparks outward.
Now scouring electrical dealers in Oz to find a correctly sized Australian plugged charger that has some kind of guarantee / warranty.
Oh, and the parcel arrived without any rubber O rings to attach to bars.
Not good.
Maybe the 5000 lumens claim relates to the amount of light they give off when they go bang? ๐
Buy cheap - buy twice. ๐
They do seem to be great value for money, if you ignore the house insurance costs ๐

bwahaha you guys kill me
I'm just using the charger that came with my xeccon light as that's a proper Oz style plug and appears to work alright. It's had over a year of use charging the 6x cell pack that came with that without exploding, snarling at the neighbour or whimpering like a wounded badger as soon as a bit of power's put through it, so I guess it's passed the test of time.
Now... To find somewhere local that does GITD "o" rings....
For balance, mine (UK) has been fine. I'd read all the reports here and have kept a really close eye on it whilst charging, but the charger hasn't even got warm, never mind hot/explodey.
Seems to be more than one source for these lights as there's been a real lack of consistency in people's experience of the lamp, battery and charger.
Where did you buy from OP?
My other charger is plugged into one of the power outlets in the garden on the off-chance something else goes. So far the charger feels fine and the battery pack is showing no signs of warming.
This one works well.
Charger also ok,very pleased twith them.
Used it about 6 times usually for around 2 hrs.
The light does get a bit warm on full beam but works fine.
Went night riding at CYB last night with my 5 yr old so i may have to buy another very soon.
Would have no problem buying from the same vendor.
Dunno why the ad states its 5000 lumens though. 1200 and probs only 800 OTF. Mine's been charging for an hour or so now and it's dark so gonna go for a wee spin round the block.
Yes, the 5000 Lumens is nonsense. The problem is, will the manufacturer think they've been popular because of the 5000 claim?!
Will we see people just adding a '0' to get some sales.
I hope not, although it will be pretty easy to judge output from the emitters used. Just as long as they haven't cocked anything up.
I guess we all bought this one because it was 2x XML-U2 and also because the first few reports were that it was pretty decent. - oh and it's cheap! ๐
Asking a potentially bone question here - but was the charger rated for 230v 50Hz? I know most chargers are capable but that looks like American prongs on it.
TBH, I buy them because they are cheap and I pretty much know what an XML emitter bungs out now...
Vendors can claim it churns out 50,000 lm I'm sure, but most people will base their judgement on what type of emitter(s) the light uses now we're all a bit more familiar with them...
As for explodey chargers, you can't say the interweb isn't awash with warnings now...
I'm now onto assembling a 6x18650 2S/3P battery pack soon, just waiting on some bits at the minute...
Shop about for a decent 8.4V / 800-1000mA charger RC shops are often a good starting point...
Probs is an American charger. They sent an adapter plug to fit Aus socket. Wouldn't surprise me if the socket wasn't the best either as the leccys in older houses here are shocking. The last house we couldnt use the oven as just turning it on tripped the power.
The light and pack have been charged for a couple of hours and it's been running on low for about an hour and a half and still shows 3 leds lit so looks like the battery is holding out ok. Be interesting to see how it goes after a few good charges.
If I put my X2 on full the indicator lights drop by one, down to medium or low and the lights go back up again
I can get around two hours on medium out of the standard pack that came with it. I've got a better pack now though so I should be able to turn it up or last longer
I have to say that medium was fine combined with a helmet mounted light
My charger went straight in the bin, I've got a pretty nice Magicshine one that's compatible so never even chanced it. But the battery's surprisingly alright and I've got nothing bad at all to say about the head unit.
The 3 pin uk charger i got works fine.. gets warm but not hot. Batter seemed ok after a 40 min muck about the other night. On high most of it too.
The problem is, will the manufacturer think they've been popular because of the 5000 claim?!
Lumens: 1500Lums - 800lums - 300lums - 1000lums
Runtime: 2h30min - 4h20min- 7h- 4h10min
I don't think the manufacturer does make that claim.

Hmm well forgot to turn the light off when I went to bed last night. Was still on this morning when I got up and down to just one green LED. Seems a strangely long run time and I'm guessing some kind of anomaly!?

It's likely that it started to overheat and dropped down to low power mode.
It was only on low power mode. But expected it would have conked out after 4 hours, not kept going for nearly 8! I just ran it in the garage so no point putting it on med or high as there was no airflow over the cooling fins. And it was 28c at around 11pm last night too.
Just augmented my Solarstorm with half a go-pro mount, a broken Orange mechhanger bolt, and a bit of a clothes peg- now working very well.
