[#437860]

TFtuned instructions say there should be 3 detent springs and ball bearings under the U-Turn adjust nob - there is only one. I def didn't drop any. These are OEM Pikes on my Pitch Pro btw if that makes a difference.

So, should I worry about this or just stick the one back in there and forget about it - what do they do?

Ta

They are there to 1. help the adjuster turn and 2. to give you the notch felling as you turn it.

Hmm well it seems to turn ok and I can feel it clicking round - don't really use it that much tbh

I got the shop to swap the spring before not long after I got the bike - wonder if they lost the extra springs or if they weren't there to start with. Think I will just ignore it - not caused a problem so far.

mine from rockshox only had 2. tft can supply them but they reccomended getting to a bearing supplier. dunno about the springs though.

the imporvement from 2-3 was noticeable easier on the u-turn, can do it from the saddle these days!

You could probably rob the spring out of a pen and a shimano front hub bearing would be about the right size!
I wouldnt worry too much, its just to give an indexed feel to the knob and stop it turning of its own accord.

Mine ran on just one for a while as there seems to be an unstoppable force that pulls the balls into the other holes from where it's nearly impossible to get the buggers out again...

Righto, cheers.

Now I have a new problem - fitted the new spring in and the foot bolt at the bottom won't tighten up, just goes right in without biting. Shit.

Arghh just realised that the new spring I got is too short - is there another travel version of the pike or something? Was the older one shorter travel?

Bastard SBR Sports!!

It says pike assembly on the little sticker on the packet that says when it was manufactured etc.

I have contacted them to check but they are utterly useless and it looks like it could be £40 down the drain (plus the £18 for the tyres they never sent me that they are meant to be refunding). ARGHHH!!!

It is probably part way into U turn adjustment. Just compress the fork till the nut meets threads.

Aha looks like you were right - nice one. Got it in ok now.

Though does the fact that it was wound part way in suggest it wasn't brand new?

No, the 2 I have had were never at the max travel. Remember and grease it well!

OK fair enough - thanks very much for that. Have greased it pretty well I think.

Still though, if I push down really hard on the forks with my weight on the bars, I still seem to only get to about 3/4s of the travel - is there something else that affects the stiffness apart from the spring firmness?

I love following these "live" fettling reports.

How long before someone does a live web-cam of a tubeless conversion, or a Hope Pro2 bearing replacement...

Nice forks Pikes. Very nice. Love mine.

If you need bearings go to ebay and type in 4mm ball bearings.I bought some a couple of weeks ago, pack of 50 decent quality ones were a couple of quid.

Could you compress it further when the spring wasn't in?

He never tried that - don't really want to take it apart again now 😛

You're not going to get full travel by throwing your weight on the bars (well I can't anyway and I'm 90kg kitted up). Stick a zip-tie or something round one of the stanchions before your next ride. Maybe do some drops. That'll give you a good idea.
