From an interview with Billie Dovey on her 100th birthday:

"Describe the bike and equipment you were using?
BF: It was a Rudge-Whitworth fitted with a three-speed cycle derailleur gear. You don’t want more than three gears, do you?

Some modern bikes are equipped with 33…
BF: You can’t tell the difference between them. Three is plenty, 33 is ridiculous. The Rudge-Whitworth was a great bike. I found it really comfortable to ride, even on long 100-mile-plus days."

Her biggest day was 198miles.

And to discover how to get free chocolate, read the interview. 🙂

Yeah, yeah. She was sponsored by Rudge-Whitworth, so she'd have to say that.

🙂

I did the interview Billie is lovely, an amazing lady very matter-of-fact about her achievement. She genuinely laughed at me and all my gears.

Three is great for my slow touring style. So is 24 for my bonkers incline climbing offroad style. Any more loses me TBH. A magic set of 3 (silly hills - medium hills- flat and downhill) would be ideal for me in most situations.

Great interview - it's pleasing to see she is not forgotten.

Could you dig up more photos? and was there a book?

Thanks for the help. Car ran ok, but it was a bit of a worry as to whether it would start or not after the ferry got in. It ran perfectly.

I must have left the sidelights on or something - those Slovenian libations have their disadvantages. 🙂
