After a little bit of Snowdonia local knowledge.
Heading to Wales for a holday, staying in Llanbedr. I was planning on taking the bike and sneaking off to coed y brennin for a day whilst im there.
The road route is 33km, but as the crow flies its only about 13 or 14km, there is of course a huge great mountain range in the middle.
Looking at google maps, there are roads (fireroads? dont know) into the middle on each side of the mountain, but they dont appear to join up.
Looking at this (ignore the route itself, it was the quickest way i could find to show the 2 points)
clicky

there's maybe 2 or 3kms of a gap between in the middle between the 2 roads, in a valley.
Does anyone know if there is a route through here? A bridleway not shown? a path? Dont have access to an OS map, does anyone know the area?

thanks in advance....

Not been through there but map says footpath see above ^^^ and it's the Rhinogs so boggy & bumpy ๐Ÿ˜‰ & probably a longer 2-3km than you think.. Why not just stay local and take the route over Pont Scethin, or if you really want to ride in to CyB take the longer [flat] route up the estuary and then into the forest from the south via the sustrans route behind Cymer Abbey.

Aye, footpath along a riverbed in a deep valley. Dry and dusty it won't be ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks folks,

I'll see what its like at the time, and then maybe give it a go depending on how long my day pass is valid for.

No local knowledge at all, was thinking of coed y brennin cos it's easy to get some good bike time in with pretty much guaranteed conditions and times etc.
But defo open to suggestions about more wild routes, ART, do you have any directions / links to the Pont Scethin route or others around that area?

thanks again

My boy stepped into a puddle along the west side of that path a couple of years ago, and sank up to his waist. This is the path (left of picture) on the west side.

Pont Scethin is good. Bwlch Drws Ardudwy will be 'interesting' on a bike. Not impossible, but a lot of hike-a-bike involved I'd imagine.

"Interesting" and "hike-a-bike" i can handle.
Looks pretty stunning there as well, and you cant beat a bit of proper outdoorsy exploring, where you havent a clue where you're going!

Wont be there for a few weeks yet, so might wait and see how wet its been in the weeks leading up to it.
The maps' scale suggests its 3 - 4kms between the road on the west side and the forest / fire road on the east side. 1 - 1.5 hrs of trekking worst case? Whats the worst that can happen!
