I'm looking at getting some SLX shifters. I have the current XT shifters on one bike, which I like a lot.

How do the SLX version compare?

Thanks

I've got XT on one bike and SLX on the other. I think XT is a good bit better, feels more positive - worth the extra IMHO.

So you have XT shifters which you like and are asking about SLX?

Give the money to charity if it is burning a hole in your pocket 😉

Jamie – I wish I had money burning a hole in my pocket.

I've got one bike with XT and I'm amazed at how much I use the forefinger shifting.

So much so that I'm thinking of changing my other bikes to Shimano as they're SRAM X9 at the moment. Full XT set-up costs so I'm wondering if SLX shifters is a way to save cash without being disappointed.

I've downgraded XT stuff (mech, chainset & shifters)on my P7 to SLX when it has worn out/broke,
the shifters were the only bit where I thought "hmm I don't like these as much as the old ones" but after a couple of rides I didn't worry about it.
The general feel and lever shape aren't quite as nice - they shift all right though.

The main difference is that the XT uses bearings to support the shift mechanism, rather then the plastic bushings that support the SLX. The feel isn't hugely different when both shifters are new, although the XT is notably lighter/smoother, but the bearings won't deteriorate over time like the plastic bushings will.

I find the XT much smoother that SLX.

XT 770 shifters are about £47 at Ribble at the moment.
