Hi

Quick query if anyone has come accross the same thing.

Bought a slx double at bargain price- tried converting to triple by removing bash and adding an old lx ring deraileur will not shift onto it, just flat out refuses, is it because the tabs are thicker than a triple chainset?

In which case, anyone want to swap a mint condition slx double and bash for a slx or lx triple

Certainly works going the other way. Are you using the 2 ring specific front mech? You will need to change to 3 ring model. You may also have to fiddle with the BB spacers to get allignment right. Not sure if the spacing is different but would doubt it.

Where did you get them from at a bargain price? I'm looking to swap out my Hone triple.

Ill sell it if i can get a Hone yes, i just like all black cranks, the SLX's looked ok when they first came out, like XTR-lite in style, but just look cheap to me now....

afraid it was a bargaintastic purchase through the classifieds, going on a hack (but quickly developing into something far better) build. Frt mech is a xt triple mech, no worries there as far as i can tell. Spacers aren't the issue, just seems to not shift up, fiddling with the mech and i can get the chain to shift alongside but not up, visually it just looks to big a gap.

I'm more than a fan of the slx styling, hence the snapped up purchase. Should have known things would be different when i saw the reinforced pedal threads

tis an option but now the bike is leaning towards more of a south downs mile muncher i figured a big ring might be the way forward. It's definately an option though.

I will check tomorro wnight as I have a double anmd a triple slx one of which id off the bike but off top of my head is it that the double si 22 /36
the triple is 22/34/44
is the 8 teeth gap in your 22/36/44 not large enough to allow the chain to change ?
Possibly no ramps/cuts on the 36 either to help it change upwards?

nope swapped the rings right out, still no shifty up, really really struggled on the few occasions and had to be given massive amounts of overshift.

Any one got a definitive answer on this?

Perhaps the limit screws on your front mech set up so that it won't physically shift onto the outer chainring:

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the linmit screws are set correctly after an initial embarrasing incident involving attempting to use a hone double frt mech (mixed up with the xt due to poor workshop housekeeping). As for set up- all seems spot on- same as i've set my other bikes- even did the penny gap clearance, just seems to be a bigger gap between the middle and upper ring.

Oh how this does vex me

I think the spider is thicker than the triple version - I tried
fitting a 4mm alloy bash ring but standard triple chain ring
bolts were not long enough so back went the "monster" SLX bash
ring ..... the spiders are not listed by part number so can't confirm
this but the double does have the inserts which suggests a
different part !!!!
