[Closed] Slipping Thompson stem

This might have been covered before so apologies in advance.  I have a Thompson stem on my Road bike.  The handlebar clamp I cannot get it to grip enough to stop the bars moving a little when hitting bumps.  Its almost there but take a big hit and it will move a mil or so .  Have used the grip paste and tightened the two (too small imo) bolts as much as possible without wincing they are going to snap.

The two bolts seem small to me for the job in hand.

Any hacks to solve this?

Cheers

They have to make the bolts small because any bigger and it's too easy to snap the face plate. The "hack" is to sell it (for some reason they are still popular) and buy something else.

Glue ?. Can you roughen the bar or clamp ?

Replace with a 3T stem worked for me.

Sorry but whilst I loved the look and matching of my seatpost, the fact is the stem could not clamp the bars sufficiently to stop bars rotating every time I hit a pothole.

Are you using an X2 or an X4? I’ve never used an X2 but I’ve had quite a few X4s for various disciplines and never had an issue.

X2 in 130mm. My Ritchey carbon stem uses the same bolts and that (4 bolt) version has never slipped.
