I have a steel frame and have always had trouble with slipping posts.
I've tried different posts and they all seem to be a good fit (don't come out without a bit of effort)
I've tried the original bolted clamp and a Hope QR (that is lubed and needs a lot of effort to close to have any chance of keeping the seat position)
It's a 27.2mm post in a 30.6 tube, no difference with the plastic shim or an ali cane creek, though I sized up to a 30.8 OD to get a snug fit.
I've also tried two different carbon pastes (one specifically for gripping stuff).
I know the Hope clamp hasn't got the best rep so I don't know whether to change that, or get a 30.6 post to remove the shim from the equation.
Measuring the seat tube ID seems to be between 30.65 and 30.7mm.
Seeking opinions before throwing more cash at it. I don't run a dropper on this bike so want to keep a QR collar on it.
change the hope, my experience of slipping seatposts has always been due to hope, clamps are terrible
Get a salsa clamp
This. Solved my issue (with a hope clamp).
Get a proper sized post and a decent clamp.
Thanks all. Just found an old litespeed bolted clamp and after sawing down a caliper bolt to fit it seems to be much more secure. Will give that a few rides and then go for a new QR. A carbon post has been on the cards for a while but so many £££!
Just won a bet with myself. Torn between Hope seat clamp or Thompson seat post before opening the thread. Did guess the right winner.
As above salsa seat clamps are the best although anything is better than Hope. You can make them work with some cleaning and greasing but better to go for something else.

No it's not a Thomson post. To be honest the post is snug, I wouldn't be able to get an additional coke can shim in there.
Suspect it's the clamp as it tightened up much more nicely with the Litespeed clamp.
About 15 years back I had a Thomson seat post and a hope seat clamp on one bike for the ultimate slippage. 😀
Ditch the hope and buy any seat collar where the bolt threads into a steel insert that can rotate, salsa being the classic example of this but others also exist.
Friend has a early orange HT that he could never stop the seat slipping, I believe we have finally sorted it, by using a double seat clamp
