Have looked at Specialized Stumpjumper and Giant Trance 2 both with 27.5 wheels, bike shop reckoned I would need a Large frame for either (based on nothing more scientific than asking my height and seeing what looked right). I've now decided instead to get a Canyon AL8.0 and their on line size guide reckons I need a Medium. I currently ride a GT Avalanche in XL and I'm worried that a Medium Canyon might feel a little cramped. I know GT frames aren't exactly a conventional size so I measured the reach and got it to 420mm but I then have a 150mm stem on it. Reach for a Canyon Medium is quoted as 418mm but the stem is a lot shorter so I'm concerned that it won't feel long enough. I don't really want to add a long stem to the Canyon.
I'm a smidge under 6 foot with a 33" inside leg.
Anyone out there with a Nerve AL 8.0 able to offer any advice based on experience? I have also emailed Canyon but won't get a reply for a few days.
I have searched on here but the topics that came up seemed to relate to the Spectral rather than the Nerve.
I'm aware I can send it back if I get it wrong but I'd rather avoid that hassle if I possibly can.
Thanks in advance.
I am just under 5' 10" and use a medium. I was careful with the measurements on the canyon site and just made the medium, I think it is just right for me, I don't think I would of felt as good on the small.
Hope this helps. It is a great bike.
So that would seem to suggest that, if there's any doubt or you are borderline, go up a size? I've tried playing around with their sizing guide to try and find out where it changes from M to L but no luck so far, not sure which the most important measurement is!
Glad to hear it's a great bike though, that's very helpful.
Anyone else?
Cheers
I'm 5'10 with a 31 inside leg. I've on my second Nerve - both Mediums.
I'd suggest you get a Large.
And yes - they are great bikes! Just order a spare mech hanger at the same time as the bike - just in case.
I have a 2014 nerve - am a smidge under 6ft and about 32 inside leg. When did sizing couldn't believe I was only a medium so ordered large. It arrived and was way too big - stand over was the problem getting wedgied by top tube. Returned it and got medium and it's perfect. Bought 3 canyons now and sizing tool on the website has been spot on each time.
Looks like I should trust their on line sizing tool then.
Help much appreciated, many thanks.
