A team of 4 of us are considering doing SITS.

I haven't done it for years, since it used to be at Trentham Gardens which I thought used to be a great, interesting course.

Looking at some of the pictures of the new SITS though it looks like you are just passing through fields and meadows, yes I know Mayhem is too, but the scenery, hills, and the atmosphere etc at Mayhem make it good.

Is it an enjoyable course, and whats the average lap time?

Ta

Laps are 35 mins in the dry, 1hr+ in the wet. The mud is like Mayhem. It's a more chilled and smaller event than Mayhem. The course is very flat but really fast and fun in the dry. It's utterly miserable in the wet. There are some fun sections of Singletrack as long as its dry,

When it's dry (it will be dry!) I love it, my favourite course mainly because it's so fast. The finish is nice too, compared to the slog of Mayhem.

You'll enjoy it!

I did it as a pair in 2010 I think??

It was dry and fast....but if it had been wet then I would have thought it would have been a bit unpleasant 🙂

I enjoyed it as it was my first 24 hour race. I really enjoyed waking up in the early hours with the mist, calm and lights coming down the small hill by the camp site.

I enjoyed the tight singletrack amongst the trees.

SiTS last year was anything but flat! It was one monster short but super steep hill at the end of it! It was really good too twisting and turning through trees and I thought it was way better then Trentham Gardens, but a bit like Mayhem it isn't very weather proof, BBF is theb est for that.

There are some fantastic bits of the course; some brilliant singletrack, nice short sharp ups and downs and a couple of longer drags. There are also some long round-the-fields linking bits but that's kind of the same at Mayhem. In the dry it's very fast. In the wet it's utterly soul (and bike) destroyingly miserable.

Nice low-key feel though, good event. Often less in the way of trade stands than Mayhem and less choice of food too. Please God, let it be someone other than Quavers Catering this year...

Ok sounds good to me.

Will make a nice change to get the semi slicks out 😆

Hmmmm, I'd call it flat I'm afraid! A few short sharp grunts certainly, and that nasty drag past the arena halfway round, but that really is it.

As others have said, in the dry its good fun, in the wet it's miserable!

Last time I did it it somehow managed to hide about 750ft of climbing into a sub 10 mile lap...

That certainly is flat!

Mountain Mayhem is approx 1,500 ft. On an average ride from the door I do approx 2,000ft and I wouldn't say the Pennines are the hilliest place in the UK.

I did it last year in a team and had a great time. A really nice, low key event. Much better course than Mayhem, not that much climbing but much more singletrack, yes I really enjoyed the course (though it was mostly dry last year). Would do it again this year if it didn't clash with Big Dog.

Mmmm, Mayhem is a longer lap, and how long's your average ride!?

Just looking at my results from SiTS last year:

7 laps
5902ft climbing (but the pressure changed markedly, so call it 5500
53.3 miles

That makes it 7.6 miles a lap and 785ft of climbing, which is more than 100ft/mile, which I'm genuinely shocked by to be honest. Certainly not the hilliest, but I'd have said there was half that.

Can't seem to remember anyone riding quicker than 37 mins in the Male Pairs last year.

Nice varied course and chilled atmosphere. Was pretty dry last year, but some wet weather going in to the evening turned the course to a gloop fest.

Hills - can only remember a couple of short hills and nothing that wasn't still rideable after 12 laps 😡
