apparently there’s a vicious rumour that he’s going to be knighted for services to football, does not winning anything count

I'm not really a fan of the honours system, but if we have to have it, I'd argue he's more deserving than most.

Agree with ransos, it’s a nonsense but he’s far more deserving than plenty that get one. Second most successful England manager and only a penalty shoot out away from being the most.

Yeah, not a huge fan of football, the honours system or the monarchy in general but I do feel he's actually done genuine good for this country and so if they're going to knight anyone it may as well be him.

From pizza hut adverts to coming sooo close as manager, I'm happy with him being knighted.

Just seems a bloody nice bloke as well.

…or achieved more than any other England manager for over 50yrs.
The honours system is a nonsense, his selection for it isn’t.

I kind of agree, but struggling to see how both parts of that sentence to be correct.

If you can begrudge Gareth Southgate an honour, then you're likely to be getting a visit from three spirits on Christmas Eve....

He should presumably get an English honour not a British one… 😉

Better than knighting Sadiq Khan for services to knife crime and ripping off motorists.

He has come closer to winning stuff than anybody else. I imagine his success has brought extra revenue into the economy.

Also he has brought a different culture to coaching in football

+ he lives in a right nice old house near Otlley ie not a footballers house

as above really - took an absolute shower of a team, rebuilt and got to two major finals, supported young players in the face of some disgusting racist abuse after a penalty shootout; did a good job

the UK honours system is a pile of xxxx - order of the british empire, knighthood urgh; needs dumping in the same bin as the HoL and the monarchy and all the private schools

Just another example of how pointless the honours system is. Another reward for failure no doubt to deflect from the even more dubious ones

Another reward for failure

I didn't see his tenure as a failure.
