After a bit of advice from those more knowledgeable than myself......

I have some 45mm 27.5 wheels sat, doing nothing, longing to be part of the party.

I have a MK1 Swift, seems like a good idea to pair the two but, although I'm sure I'd get a 3 inch tyre on the front (Salsa Firestarter fork) unsure how wide I can go in the back?

I'm sure I read some somewhere that someone had Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.8 front and rear on a MK1 but just wanted confirmation from someone who has tried.

Cheers all

If you do a bit of digging there was quite a comprehensive thread on hardtails and which plus tyres would fit.

Cheers guys.

Rocketdog..... What's the clearance like at the chainstays? Don't spose you have any pics?

Also how does it ride compared to with it set up as a 29er?

I can add no solution to the question, but I must say the old blue Swifts do look classy next to some of the hideous power ranger style bikes on the market these days.

Enough clearance not to buzz the stays when out of the saddle like the 27.5x3 bomboloni did but not a great deal

29x2.4 ardent on a 35mm rim had plenty of room.

29" is so much better in ride feel and grip ime

Currently like this

With a 2.4 in the back

I had a Swift rigid & now a Niner rigid steel fork. They were identical but fit the cutouts in the Swift dropouts.
A 3”x29” Knard on a Dually fit the Niner with loads of room, so a 27.5 should.

Where did you get the black decal from?

I'm guessing Gil?

Thanks for the info and pics Rocketdog......

I've got the wheels and tyres for 27.5x2.8 so gonna give it a go.

I live out in Croatia where the riding is generally dry rocky/rooty trails so figured a large volume tyre would provide a little more comfort.... We'll see how it goes
