well, specifically titec j-bars.ย  bought some on a whim from here as i liked them on my old swift.ย  now ive got to think about the practicalities ๐Ÿ™‚

are they compatible?ย  at present i have ragly luxy drops, which i believe are the type of bar the bike was meant for.ย  would i need a longer stem for the titecs?ย  i also have BB7's with road levers.ย  im thinking the j bars would probably be better served with mtb brakes.ย  and as i rarely ride these days, probably cable discs over hydraulic so as not to degrade the oil, but id need mtb levers wouldnt i?

so, do you think itd be easier to just have these 2 separate 'cockpits', and just interchange them?ย  so keep the same rotors on the wheels, but when i fancy a swap, just take the whole lot off the front and replace with t'other cockpit?ย  one being my stem/ragly bars/road BB7s and replace with different stem/j-bars/mtb BB7s? and the pads at the end of the cables would also be compatible with the rotors so itd be an easy swap?

interested in opinions please.

thanks

Definitely need mtb brake levers, but I'd try the Titecs with the stem you have. The point of H-Bars is to give you a more upright, swept back position. I'd have thought that they'd work really nicely with the Gryphon's shorter top tube and longer head tube.

Just note where your hands are in space with the existing bars. If that's comfortable, replicate the position by using an appropriate stem.

Getting the right position with Jones type bars is a bit trial and error. As @epicyclo says, try and get the same spatial position for your hands when they are holding the bars at the outermost position, then work from there. I take it you've read the installation instructions from the Jones site?ย

When I had Jones bars on my fat bike I used BB7s with MTB levers without problem, actually the main problem if you use silicon grips like Chunky Monkeys is that the clamp has to slide on to the bar as it has a one piece clamp rather than two piece like Hopes.

i hadnt read those instructions, but will do so thanks, i was just going to set them up in the comfiest position.

gut feeling is ill be asking in the wtds for some mtb BB7s, and i think from memory when i last had some of these bars i had the levers on the 'sticky outy bits out front'.ย  ill keep the same stem for now then and place the new bars over the top of the raglys and look down to see whats changed.

i was also going to use tape on both the 'handles' and 'extensions', unless theres some grips that go especially well with these bars?

thanks

My Jones are set up with a 15 deg slope to rear. Tape on central loop with ESI grips to the outside of the levers. The gap in the tape centre front is to allow me to fit lights, etc. there.
