I picked up my 2010 Orange Crush SS conversion from the LBS today and took it for a quick spin. Fine on the flat but any out of saddle stuff caused the chain to slip loudly and violently.
All parts are new - chain, 32t chainring and 15t rear sprocket.
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Define slip, is it coming off the front ring or the rear sprocket?
Without more detail I would have to say it sounds like it could be a chain line issue
If chain is staying on rings then rear hub would be next guess
Rear hub goosed?
Chain tension good?
Free hub good?
Chain wrap good?
not enough chain wrapped around the sprocket the tensioner may need adjusting forward to engage on another sprocket or two
Chain stays on rings. It's slipping on the front I think.
Tomhoward - I don't know. I am no fettler hence LBS.
ta.
if chain stays on rings and the front chainring isn't a toothless as shane mcgowan, then it's most likely to be the pawls in the rear hub.
if the chain line was out would be noise or drop chain.
if chain tension was slack enough for the chain to jump on the front ring it would be baggier than a whores ladybits
changed the chain line? bolts on the rear hub not done up tight enough?
Take it back to the LBS and tell them to make it right.
Rhbrhb - good call. I think it's the freewheel hub. It feels a bit ropey.
Will get him to replace it.
Thanks guys.
When my first SS conversion did that it was due to the chain wrap, and with a 15t I reckon this could still be a possibility so would recommend checking. It drove me mad till I sussed it out (with help from peeps on here!)
