Was pretty lucky with the weather today. The rain didn't materialise and the wind wasn't too bad either. However, I was bitterly disappointed to learn there was no carrot cake in the Ae cafe, so had to settle for date flapjack and a cappucino pre-ride.
I have to say I comitted myself to the huge berms of The Face, and got myself down in one piece.
I saw that piece on "Are trail centres too rocky". Well there are a couple of sections at Ae that are not really that fun on a hard tail, and I struggle to pick up speed.
But I got round to The Edge and always love the two downhill big bermy sections here, the second one in particular which is short but oh so sweet.
You know, this one here, behind me going diagonally down : )
So yeah, then it was on to the monster 3km downhill that is Omega Man.
Here I am fully focussed. Had to really put the carrot cake incident behind me, clear my mind and all I could see was that bad boy they call "The bad boy big step".
Yeah it doesn't look too high but that's just the camera perspective, which always makes these huge gap jumps look smaller than they really are. 😀
Built up my speed, got my feet just so, pulled back my weight and woa yeah!
Then whooomph! Check the compression. Held it together finding my line and then carried on for some major table top, drop off and big berm action back down to the valley and cafe.
Yeah, monster day out!
grrrrr-----I`m decorating 😈
Off to Edin tomorrow, window shopping round the bike shops whilst wife is at meeting.
sick airtime, stoked for you dude
Simon, the correct spelling is phatttt, I believe.
Jey to the power of Mince, dude. More fun than my FreeGrouting™ today anyway.
Thing is folks, you may think this is a bit of a wind up post, and yeah, of course in my gentle way I am just having a bit of Tuesday fun with it, but that photo there is the first one ever showing me achieving air. I first got air last Tuesday on the blue run at Glentress, and knowing I have certain limits, certainly wasn't going to go stright off the table tops and what have you, but yeah, am off to Mabie on Thursday to see if there are any decent jumps that I can go back and practice on more heh 😀
Yeah yeah I know I barely got off the ground but hey, how much fun did I have today and that's all that matter really ay? 🙂
Yeh but did the rear get "TRUE" air - I bet you just rolled that 😉 Where is the piccy of the rear of the ground at the same time at the front LOL 🙂
Foxyrider
Well you do have a point and to be honest I am not too sure. I wont tell you how many takes it took me to get these photos 🙂
I think on Thursday I'll try and remember that my camera has a video option too to see exactly what's happening at the back.
we are all jealous that we are skiving and you were on your bike, glad you had a good day. Air can be over rated.
Wasn't having a dig, Si. I too have yet to fully embrace the Gnarl. Have found dropping the saddle all the way down so there's no temptation to sit on it helped, while doing the weight shifting thing. Still can't stop myself braking and rolling most jumps I come across though.
Simon - I reckon your ready for Swaledale now 😉
Pics of said "air" or it never happened. You know the rules.
mad skillz for real, be watching your new moves at Kirroughtree at the weekend.
Forge - you know it. I'll have to show you me doing the drop on the red on the way back home. MrPyekid totally showed me how to do it. And DeeJay put me right on how to get through berms too. And what with me clearing the final rock garden with Haddock at Dalbeattie, you'll be amazed at how I've got on this month 🙂
Simon - I reckon your ready for Swaledale now
Just make sure it is dry and someone has turned off the wind machine 😐
Otherwise Swaledale is nice, just no trees to hide behind.
Bit of Wensleydale is good to
BTW I was only joking - I'm not that great at getting air. I like it when you get that 1 cm air feels like 1 Metre feeling 😉
Excellent ride review....now that's my kind of air....
.......no carrot cake does sound like a massive disappointment though. I'd write a letter.
