just getting enthusiatic again for my little stretch of jumps and drops and the next additions i've got planned. will try to get some photos taken soon.

anyone else got similar projects going on? let's see!

nice thing about my bit is it's only me that does anything, tho a few folk seem to pass by now and then, and i can pretty much do what i want.
also nice to be able to tailor stuff to my abilities, increase jump size over time if i want etc.

Yep it's good isn't it. I really like planning and building a new feature and then finally seeing how it rides.

Theres a few drops and other stuff I've been building this winter, I'll post some pics up later in the week.

Well you can start off with a kicker and a long shallow landing to gauge speed / distance if you're unsure about hitting a fully built double, then adjust the landing to suit the jump.

Can't beat a bit of trailbuilding. I had a load of pics on a thread on here a few years back but they were on imageshack and can't access them anymore. I made a video of my first full run though...

Very nice Euro. I find it hard work videoing stuff, especially as I'm often riding on my own.

jamiesilo - Member will try to get some photos taken soon.
Get them up, what are you planning to build?

yeh nice euro, think i remember seeing your pics from when you started. been putting the hours in looks like.

i have at least a pic somewhere, i'll get it dug out.

next thing i want to build is a sort of down-up feature, where you get a nice feeling of going off something, smoothly re-contacting onto down 'ramp' and rolling straight back up the out ramp, so you harldy have to do anything but hit it at the right speed.
it's not very quick this whole section, but getting the bowl profile right will be the trick so it matches speed.

will invlove a bit of dry stone work, as everything i build kinda has to. i live in south of france and this bit of land is dead dry. build most stuff by piling up dry stone, getting smaller and smaller til gravel until i have the smooth shape.

i tend to get obsessed for a bit until my latest bit is done. it's 5 minutes' ride form the house, so i'll sneek off for 45 minutes to bash on with stuff.
also, amazing how much you can get done by yourself over time. love it.

right, where are those pics...?

i did have a small double for a while, but i had a crash just after it (nothing to do with the double, just new light hweels and a bush) and it started bothering me every time so i filled it in...

Yes to all that. I love building stuff, but hate leaving it half finished. But as soon as I finish one thing I get the itch to build something else!

Sounds like a jump into a bombhole? Should be fun, especially if you can hit it at different speeds.

yes, more like a slight drop into a bombhole.
speed is pretty fixed by terrain, but will be some variation yeh.
i have been imagining the feeling of riding this feature, for longer than planning it, ie i've been wanting to make something which feels like that to ride for a while.

anyway, found a couple of pics on my phone:
first a drop where cut a line across and built up a stone retaining wall.
there's as much height again from bottom of the wall down, so makes maybe a metre if you're rolling fast enough; your back wheel hits at the bottom of the gravelly bit below. if you're slower you get a roll down with the back wheel

and just after, a table top made almost entirely of stone. big slabs were just beside it so i decided to use tham as surface rather than covering with gravel then soil as i usually do.

[img] [/img]

it's possibly a bit on the short side, as even i don't really land on the off-ramp.

so anyone had any success videoing on their phone, taped to helmet of similar?
probabaly not worthwhile, but it would be nice to show the whole section somehow, and i don't have any pals with action cams

disclaimer: i didn't start this thread just to gloat about my dry trails, honest!

Why do photos off your phone never do these things justice?
Anyway, this is just over the road from me so I can head out there and create if I can ever find the time. I'm not going to claim I cut the original line but as far as I can tell, I'm the only person to ride and maintain this trail. Pretty short but quite intense with some big (enough for me) gaps into steep corners. I try and keep the building subtle and the entrance / exit hidden as the area is plagued with moto and quad bikes that just rip trails to bits.

Plans for the future would be to extend higher up the hill but the problem with doing that would be that it's open and grassy so it would effectively flag the entrance to the rest of the trail for the motos.

Still, it's pretty cool having your own personal test track 5 minutes from your door to get bikes dialed in on.

nice one paul. some pretty big gaps there. for me anyways. and some of it looks quite flat (not the last one). do you have to rag it to get enough speed, or is it all a bit more slopey than it looks?

Couple of pics of what I've been working on over winter.
First is a drop halfway down a short steep slope, you enter the top part through a 90 degree left hand off camber then pick up speed down the slope, off the downhill lip and touch down on the landing about 6-8' below which is angled to the right to join the trail at the bottom. Flows really nice and smooth.

Dh Drop

Second is a bit more ambitious, theres a small drop at the top then a bowled landing leading to a second lip and a much larger gap/drop. I'm calling this 'double trouble'. This section is good for getting your 'Zen' on as you have no time to adjust or setup between the first and second drop, once you leave the first drop you're going off the second with or without your bike :-).

Double trouble

New 'double trouble' section in the middle, you can see another hipped gap/drop on the left and a kicker on the far right that takes you onto the same landing as the bottom of double trouble, you have to hit that one quite fast and it's got a bit of a left hip to it as well.

Understand why people want to keep their locations secret, if any regular forum members near Preston want to meet up for a ride then PM me.

Cheers.

some of it looks quite flat (not the last one)

That's the camera effect for you and the pictures aren't in any kind of order! The last one is about the flattest part of the trail and does need a good crank out of the previous berm. It's not super steep but steep enough that you could still need to brake into most corners if you just coasted and pumped from the top.
The last section (picture 1 is the gap landing hard on the brakes to hit the berm in picture 3) is pretty steep - if you missed the berm, you'd been a world of trouble!
And the gaps are no where near as big as some others have posted.
