Matt you need to be tidier with your garden, sorry. Lose leafs should be cleared as soon as they fall. Unacceptable.

I've recently picked up a 4x and am after a bit of suspension set up advice. Having come from a long travel hard tail I'm new to rear shock and despite palying around a bit having found a setting that feels just right.

Any tips on a good starting point would be helpful - RP23 with a 85kg rider. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Would like to join the ride but I'm up North so its a bit too far to travel. I'll keep my eye out for Hora in the Peaks though!

Riofer I've not fiddled with mine much but I've just set it around 25% - 30% sag and not too fast or slow on the rebound, sag is the best way to judge shock pressure not a PSI number. The shock on my 4x is an RP3 with low pro-pedal, I set the pro pedal lever in the middle. Feels fine and I don't get any significant bob in the granny ring.

Changing the cranks to 170mm SLX with a dual ring and bash after nearly destroying the outer ring on my cranks at the weekend, that BB sure is low.

Hey Hora - really? V interesting, do you think they lowered it from the earlier versions? I have noticed more clippage vs the 06 Five frame I was riding.

I'm not sure for definite but with 140 Rev maxles I was clouting everything with my pedals. Whereas the same forks on the blur- not once.

Bit of a hijack, but was wondering what size frame / stem / seatpost folks are running on theirs?

Im 6ft which puts me on the borderline between the large and the medium, but would guess that with a short stem (80mm? 60mm?) the top tube length on the large should be OK.
Also, layback or straight post? im thinking straight to make the most of the seat angle for climbing which again makes me think the large should be good.

Im 6ft2, ride a medium with a 70mm stem and inline post/seat back on its rails- that would be too cramped for some though.

I'm 6'1", riding a large with a 65mm stem and in-line post, I find it a perfect fit. I think a Medium would be too cramped for me for all-round riding.

6'3" (but long body/short legs), Large, 70mm stem, in-line post. I wouldn't want to put a layback on it for the reason your menionted. You need your weight forward a bit for climbing, especially if you don't want to bother winding your forks down for the steep climbs

6ft, Large with 50mm stem and inline post - feels about spot on but may try a 65mm stem

Wierd. I had a large before- even though its 'better' I find the medium livelier for me. Then again I liked the medium chameleon but didnt like the large chameleon..

Mines got a 50mm stem, Inline post and I'm 6'2" on a large. Haven't ridden it much yet though so things may change, not the seatpost though except for an adjustable inline one.

I definitely recommend a KS pure shock adjustable-thingy. Brilliant. I'm a convert even if they are abit stiff at times 🙂

Im,5ft 8"on a medium! inline post with the seat ramed forward on the rails. 70mm chromag stem and 750mm wide low rise bars. I run u-turn pikes with lock out, set at 115mm but with a slackened head angle using a CK stepped head set race (slackens the head angle and increases bb ht a bit - trust me it works, will try and upload a pick)!

This is the best bike Ive owned! oopnorth 4x day sounds like a plan!

I've noticed there are some posters on here that haven't provided pics of their bikes for all of us other 4X owners to drool over!

Come on lads sort it out 😆

Finished pics of my lovliness should be available in a week or so (I'm so inpatient!)

Not the best pic. It has 36s now instead of the Pikes and SLX cranks now. Great wee bike.

Very arty shot there, for a second I thought you had CB iodine wheels with the gentle orange glow. what length you running the 36's at? I'm torn between 36's at 140-150mm travel fixed or RS Rev 2010's. The RS are getting some really good reviews and the race's are only £350, send them off to the TF for push tuning after the first year and they'll almost have BBMC tech internals.

SLX dual ring and blackspire stinger is a v good set up it seems.. no problems.

Duckcm18, cheers. I nearly always keep the forks at 130mm. It doesn't seem to corner as well on 160mm.

Lots of people have thought those wheels were CB Iodines in that shot. The chain isn't gold either.

I was planning to put my new Reba Teams with BBMC on my Stiffee for tomorrow, but i've lost the collet for the headset. Grrrr i hate it when misplacing a tiny part stops a build. At least its a Hope so I should be able to get another easily.

Sadly the Blur needs new bearings pretty badly and i'm waiting for them to arrive, so it won't get ridden this weekend.

Davyboywonder,

..I christened my 4X at stainburn over a year ago in torrential rain and the bike loved it! - it was that ride that convinced me to ditch the 'big ring' tho' and the larsen tt's!

Rancho - my first ride on the 4x was also Stainburn but she's running a totally different setup these days, probably more suited to Stainburn. Looks like tomorrow I'll be riding the hardtail anyway now... can't be faffed with any potential cleaning when I get home so hardtail and singlespeed it is!

Nice colour-coordination. You don't see green "highlights" much but I actually quite like it 🙂

Are your bars rotated slightly forward? What is the thinking behind that?

Looks nice Duckcm18, I'm a fan of green bits! Itching to get out on mine soon, roll on 28th. Hardtail weather at the moment though. Swinley rode amazingly well last weekend given the weather recently.

Also booked into the Kona mash-up in December so will be giving the 4x a good all round test there I hope.

I was at Swinley yesterday on my Blur 4X and tbh I think the rigid 29er will be out next time if the weather stays like this - it was pretty muddy!

Ha ha - so we are going to have a Blur 4x ride and all turn up with our hardtails! 🙂

Thanks for the comments, I think the green will look better once I have white forks. I have blue Floating rotors and some Blue bore caps for the M4 Brake, just gotta decide if I'm gonna get a blue one for the front V2 or not. I was speccing some wheels the other day and i think Silver Hope pro 2's with White Flow rims and Blue Alloy nipples are the way forward 😆

Jfeb the bars are slightly rotated forward in that pic, no real reason for it other than my little stand tips the bike forwards when resting and I over-compensated, straightened up now and feels much better.

If I have to bring my Hardtail, I'll be really slow as it's rigid. I think I'm gonna start building up a BFe though in the new year.
