I currently have a naked alloy frame. I stripped it down and polished it with Autosol. Now it's gleaming like a chrome BMX or an old Zaskar but it looks a bit plain.
I was going to replace the original graphics, but I know someone who can create high quality full colour versions of pretty much anything I can imagine in very tough vinyl.
So I was thinking of having the big Nicolai downtube sticker, and the original Geometron and G16 graphics redesigned slightly in a more interesting fashion. Because the frame is highly polished I was thinking retro, neon, psychedelic style. I said I'd find some ideas and send them over but it's a tricky thing to find unless you know exactly what you're looking for.
Can you show me any inspiration? Looking for 90's style paint jobs, colour schemes or stickers.
This is the kind of stuff I'm looking at so far...

There's a bloke on Retrobike who used to work for GT bikes in the USA. He was telling a story about the late 80's, early 90's GT's with the multicolour splatter/splash paint jobs. Apparantely they went through the paint shop 3 or 4 times to finish those paint jobs off they were so complex - each one is unique - even on the £250 bottom end models they had the same amazing paint finishes.
I don't know what paint they used on the GT's but its pretty much the toughest paint I have ever found on a bike, my 92 Tequesta paint hardly has a mark on it - still shines up like new with a bit of polish.
GT really went in for the whole splash and spray motif, didn't they?
This one was mine and it was definitely a bike of its time:
Set of Middleburn chainrings (including a, then awe-inspiring, 50t) - CHECK
Ringle H2O cage - CHECK
Gripshift X-ray shifters, with purple grips - CHECK
Yellow grips that don't match the X-rays - CHECK
Red riser bar (the very latest thing!) - CHECK
Riser bar cut down by 6" because you can't be too crazy with new stuff - CHECK
Flite Ti saddle in Italian colours - CHECK
Pace RC35 Elastomer forks, which only worked properly for about 3 weeks of the year - CHECK
XT V-brakes (a much later addition, but were the first set in my local shop) - CHECK
Third party brake levers because I couldn't afford the proper Shimano ones - CHECK
Threaded headset because I couldn't afford a threadless one - CHECK
Titanium Hope hubs - CHECK
NOT cartridge hubs, because I couldn't afford it, so threaded cartridge freewheel - CHECK
Titanium, coloured spokes on the bike wheel only, because they were cheap from a mate - CHECK
Orange Wildgripper tyres because...they were orange - CHECK
No two colours matching, no taste whatsoever - CHECK
And you know, sometimes I still regret selling it, even though it was probably awful to ride... :-/
So, if you can't decide on a paint job, you can always just go for a naked frame, and colour up on accessories!
Have an Attitude in 'original' colours (i.e. the ones I first lusted after) with a Disc Drive and white tyres.
