OK so got a new bike with Tiagra groupset and Shimano hydraulic disk brakes. The rear brake has way too much hose which is flapping about around the steerer tube. The brakes have the easy joint system which is within this. I want to shorten the hose. Looking at the manual below in order to shorten the hose am I better disconnecting the hose from the caliper and shortening there rather than at the end with the easy joint system on it?
I have shortened mtb hoses before usually at the lever end. The location of the easy joint is in about the right location so the choice is to shorten the rear section of hose either at the caliper or at the easy joint.
I'm not sure, the manual shows an Easy Joint connector on the lever itself (page 19). This means you will need to unwrap the bar tape in order to shorten the line, which is a bit of a hassle.
If the connector is somewhere on the line and outside the bar tape (like here), I'd say that is the point to shorten, otherwise go with the caliper end - unless it has a crimped banjo, in which case it cannot be shortened there.
