I use an older version of these:

I have only used them for rides up to half a day long but they have been fine and stayed put without being too hot, although I haven't used them in 20 degree+ weather. The number of chunks now missing out of them suggests they have been worthwhile 😉

I have got some 661 pads. I can't remember the name of them, but they have grey pads with black backing & seem to be the most common 661 knee/shin combos in the shops.
I wouldn't recommend them. They tend to slip down if you are pedalling any distance and to get them to stay put you need to tighten them so much it's uncomfortable.
They had slipped down in Spain when I was there a month ago and I came off and smacked my knee into a rock. It is still not back to normal - I think I had some serious bruising!

I am looking to replace them & have seen lots of good reviews for the Raceface ones mentioned above.

2 mates use the white Dainese ones that you have to slide on (they have a knee sock) and they stay put no matter what - but you mention that you don't like Dainese......

Got the raceface FR pads. Great coverage and they stay stuck when you stack. The stitching that holds the straps on is rubbish though, I've had two sets and the stitching has gone on both of them. I re-stitched them with a small drill, some sail repair thread, a big needle and a pair of plyers and they're back on my legs.

They're no good for putting on and riding with all day long though. They're just too restrictive. You need to carry them on your pack and put them on for the descents / tricky bits. Takes about a minute to put on the legs and the arms though.

POC. Excellent pads in a Stormtrooper kinda way. The upper part of the knee pad is hinged and uses that funny dough stuff that's soft until you hit it. The Bike Chain in Edinburgh do them mail order.

Yeah had a look at the POC ones the other day, look well made. Pity can't really demo them as not convinced they'd be too comfy if pedalling for a few hours

I have the knee sock Dainese as well, I've used them upto 35deg with no real issues, presumably you don't sweat that much thrugh your shin bone, the calf must have the better blood supply?

It depends on the shape of your leg, since loosing a lot of muscle bulk the dainese dont slip down like they used to (never elft the knee exposed and never twisted off, but the knee protector did slip down to the front of the knee, guess your unlikely to bang the top of the knee from that angle anyway (the impact would need to be coming form your belly to get to it)

I think you can use separate 661 shin pads in combo with the kyle straits.

I use the RaceFace FRs - don't notice them once riding so can't ask for much more than that. Haven't had any serious stacks yet, but feel confident that they'll do the job.

Cheers

The POC stuff looked great and seemed to fit/stay in place really well for all the Mleh crew when they were out the other week (3 or 4 people using them).

Personally I've currently got Dainese strap-on ones. Not impressed at all, they slip down all the time. Just ordered some 661 Race ones with a full knee-sock, so we'll see how they do.
