More mechanical issues I'm afraid.
I have just changed from a triple to a single up front and during the process I have bought a new clutch mech and chain.
Just put it all together today and am having shifting issues, I can get it to go from small to large ring but then it gets stuck and won't come back down again and there is no click from the shifter.
Also it doesn't have a barrel adjuster on the mech but does have a third screw that sits apart from the high and low stops, is this the equivalent to the barrel adjuster or am I being an idiot and the adjuster is just up top on the shifter?
Anyway, I am off to the LBS tomorrow and will pick up a new cable in case that is the issue but would appreciate any thoughts you chaps and Chappettes have. Can't find anything on you tube for the Zee mech.
Pretty sure I'm right in saying that all adjustment will be done from the barrel adjuster on the shifter. The third screw you mention only adjusts how close the top jockey wheel is to the cassette itself. You want it pretty close but not so they are fouling each other. I doubt this is your problem though.
There's just a barrel adjuster on the shifter, the extra screw you've found is the b-screw most likely?
Excellent well that's one question sorted, I was thrown by the you tube videos which all talked about a barrel adjuster on the mech end rather than shifter.
Just the question as to why it won't budge down now
Sticking cable is it a new one or the old one
OOps its the old one
Maybe try screwing that B screw in a bit,if the top pulley on the mech is too close to the big sprocket It might be stopping the mech from shifting
Thanks, will look at that now I know what the B screw is.
Try these steps...
Switch up to the big ring at the back and adjust the B tension screw until your jockey wheel sits about 5mm from the large ring, making sure the chain doesn't foul the ring when changing down.
Turn the barrel adjuster on the shifter all the way in then wind it our three to four turns out.
Now go to the small ring and make sure the cable tension is tight.
Turn the rightmost limit screw anti clockwise until the chain begins to bind, then back it off in 1/4 turn increments until your chain sits perfectly on the smaller cog.
Now shift up the cassette and you should find all is well both ways.
If you're still having issues then check the chain length to make sure you've taken all of the necessary slack out of it, without having it so tight that it causes trouble, especially if you're running full suss. You have to make sure you have sufficient chain length to be in the big ring at the full stroke of your shock without maxing out the "travel" of the mech.
Forgot to mention you can now fine tune up and down with the barrel adjuster.
Thanks WC
I have the same set up and had the same issue - adjusting the b limit so the jockey wheel is a bit further from the cassette fixed it
Right, time to get the bike stand out and bike up in the air and fix this thing once and for all.
Are you sorted now?
It was the cable. Was getting stuck, as it happened I had to take the bike to the LBS today to make sure that I was buying right size reverb. They took a look at the rear mech and within 10 mins they were back with it working, new cable was all it needed and they did it all for free.
