Hi,

I have just bought a new bike that comes with a Shimano 105 5700 39 x 53 chainset. I would like to fit a 50t outer chainring and have found one here but it is listed for a triple chainset rather than a double, which is what I have.

Does anyone know what the difference is and if it is compatible?

Thanks very much!

It will fit onto your cranks but it may not shift perfectly.

I see, do you know why that would be?

Looking at the triple chainset it seems they have a 39 middle ring so would have thought that is should be OK on a 39-50 double.

Thanks again!

The shift ramps on Shimano rings are designed to work together so using a double ring with a triple ring sometimes doesn't work perfectly as the ramps may not be matched properly.
