Just shortened my brake cable but the supposed universal shimano olive i've bought is too big to fit inside the shroud. Any ideas what I need? Do shimano make an olive with a split in like Hope which will fit the shroud?
It doesnt fit into the shroud...

Did the brakes come with an olive? My M575 brakes did, and the olive worked fine when I shortened my hose.
Is the olive quite neat on the hose, or does it move very freely? Are you sure you've been given the right size of olive? To the best of my knowledge Shimano only use one size of olive (although the size of inserts have changed in the current XTR/XT/SLX etc models due to different internal diameter hose but this has no impact on what your situation).
Perhaps go back to the shop and get another olive?
