I've removed the cage successfully, but now there's a gap between the pedal body and the axle cap, that would have originally been filled by the resin cage. What do i put in its place? Cheers.

Are you converting them to cageless?? WHY?
Set of M520s are only £20.

Is the bearing "cartridge" screwing home? You may not need anything.

I've already had them 6 months bigyinn, but my shoes don't work very well with them due to the cage. Why would i spend another £20 when the actual pedals on these work fine. I've just left it with a gap, and if they die prematurely i'll just get a set of M520.
