Hi All,

I'm upgrading my brakes this weekend to a set that are Shimano i Spec EV compatible, which opens up new possibilities for mounting shifter/dropper etc.

My question is: can I buy an adapter that changes my bar mounted Deore M5100 shifter to i Spec EV? or do i need to go out and buy an I spec variation and faf around with changing cables etc?
It looks like the bar mounting arm is detachable from the shifter and the exploded view.

Similarly, is there one i can use for my dropper? It's the basic brand X one but also detachable from it's bar mounting arm.

Thanks

Shimano made a horrible mess of I-Sspec over the years, and you'd need a new I-Spec EV shifter as a result.

Better chance of a dropper adapter, Wolf Tooth make them, and others.

You can get a pretty nice Deore EV dropper remote for not too much money and there is a few EV to MMX conversions, which might suit your dropper remote, but the Deore will probably be nicer and about the same price when all is said and done. The other side you can get an EV shifter, which means you can almost certainly get the convertor, in normal times that is. Good luck right now!

If I'm honest, it's not about the cost so much as laziness and me not wanting the change the shifter over as it'll mean changing the cable, setting everything up etc.

There are some converters and things you can do, but I don't think any of it works with Deore shifters, only the higher spec stuff. However, myonly experience of the iSpec horrorshow was with iSec II, there are so many different variants, you'll need to do a Google search and confirm for yourself. I just bought a non-iSpec shifter, problem solved.

Maybe it is just a gimmick, thought I'd go for it if there was a cheap old adapter I could bolt on but i can't say I've ever looked at my bars and though "uhh, if only i had more space!".

I'm running a bar mounted slx shifter beside my Deore I spec ev brakes with no issues at all. Not worth the hassle to change it as it works well AND I have a spare I spec ev shifter sitting there if I wanted to use it anyway.
