My road commuter has gone, it says Road BC 137 on it, can I not use my spare MTB BB ?

Yes
using tiagra bb with my Saints with no issues.

Plastic sleeve is too short tho so re—use the mtb one

Yes you can. As GW says, use the road sleeve with the mtb cups. The road cups are about 1mm wider than the mtb cups. That is unlikely to cause too much of a chain-line problem, but you may possibly need to fiddle with your front mech if you're using one.

Ta. Running an alfine so not too bothered about chainline.

I thought it was the other way round....
