Hi all.

Just rebuilt the front hub on my Thorn. It's an HB-M775. The nicest Shimano front bub I've ever seen, at least 2 sets of seals before the bearings, one with a tiny rubber grommet - there was NO dirt/water in it!

Anyway - dispite all this, it's done about 10,000km and the cones have a couple of little pits. Where can I get only the cones? SJS want to sell me one at a time for £16, or a complete axle for £36?!

I thought the point of these things was the cones were only a few squids.

Any help appreciated.

Also - Shimano hub love/hate/tips thread!

Just checked the importer's site, cone unit set (for one end of axle) £17.99, axle only(with other end's cone built in) not available, complete axle assembly £34.99. Afraid you've been grabbed by the short'n'curlies.

How much is a whole hub? That's how I refurbed a mate's wheel, bought a hub, battered out the inner races (hard, not to be done unless essential), fitted the races and the axle from the new hub.

Spell watted!

Mine's the non brake version, but I think that'll fit.

OK, that's the way to do it.

Thanks again.

I don't know about recent models but Shimano interchangability on hubs used to be good.
