I have a pair of road wheels with Ultegra 6500 hubs and the freehub is starting to have excessive play. Can I use any 8/9sp freehub, or does it have to be a 6500 one? I have researched it on t'web, but can't get a decent answer.

Ta.

The most help I can offer is some will fit, most can be made to fit with a little bodging/part swapping, and some most definitely won't. If it's a similar spline pattern on the hub-shells then the outer seal housing is usually the only issue(apart from occasional width differences), and they can be swapped if you're not too clumsy(snug fitting sockets, and a little wiggling to remove). If it's from the RM range then the splines are totally different(think there are two different types of those within the RM range too, not sure if RS types are different as well).

The cones and seals differ pending on model and generation. A quick rummage on the supplier site suggests that the part you quire for a 9spd 6500 hub is 32U-9801.
