I am sure i read that although shimano and sram rear mechs and shifters are not compatible due to cable pull I sure that the front ones do work each other can anyone confirm or deny this thanks

Fronts fine, rears no.

You can mix and match brands on the front so yes it will work.

The rear brands need to be the same I.e both shimano or both SRAM.

great thanks am hopefully getting a new bike but i would like to swap a few bits over so may have unused but fitted tuff available soon if all goes to plan

The only cross compatibility on the rear is SRAM Attack/Rocket shifters will work with a shimano mech.

I have X0 shifters but a XTR front mech. Seems to have worked quite well for the last 3 years.

so how come my spesh stumpjumper 2010 came with SLX shifters and SRAM X-0 rear?
