After improving the brakes on my lads 24" bike as the current cheapy cable Tektros aren't up to much now he's trail riding with me and hitting the skateparks, bmx tracks and skills areas. CRC currently have the Altus and Acera disc brakes for £17 and £21 respectively, wondering what the difference is and whether Aceras are worth the extra £8 for the pair. Also the Hayes Stroker Rydes are less than £20 an end if bought as a set, I'd rather stick with Shimano really but could give these a go if they're recommended?

I don't think there is much difference between them, the branding is probably due to their appearance in the different groupsets which have different components but the brakes are the same. Definitely worth sticking with Shimano though.

The Shimano ones look like quite a bargain for hydraulic disk brakes. Unfortunately limited stock on the rear ones with the longer hoses.
