Madison list an M660 36t ring. SLX uses the composite format so I presume this may be what you are after.

SLX 36T is an aluminium ring, it is only the 32T that is composite. Same with XT, no composite 36T.

So it's a no for shimano 36T composite.

Any other hard wearing, but light alternatives?

Actiontec ones: are they Ti? Super expensive?

Actiontec - yes ti IIRC, super expensive and present problems of their own - like chain length, shifting your chain up onto it and gear ratio gaps
