Came across this and it got me thinking, how hard can it be? However thinking about the weight of a bike cantilevered off a wall, is there any guidance for what sort of load a wall can take.

When you carry the load in shear a wall can take a lot. Just look how heavy a kitchen cabinet is before you fill it with all the crockery and glasses and that hangs of a couple of screws at each top corner.
I am guessing this thing is fixed to the wall near the top edge so that the bending moment is reacted by the wall below the fixings against the bottom part of the shelf. There is a risk of pull out - especially if you have huge handlebars.
