Hi, my Shimano XT Shadow Plus mech has started playing up - gears are shifting with the switch set to ON, but when I shift down to a smaller cog, the derailleur is not pulling back to take up the chain tension - the chain hangs loose from the lowest jockey wheel to the bottom of the chainring. In other words, there appears to be no movement either forward or backward with the clutch on.
It's been working fine for a while, and I've not adjusted anything to cause it to suddenly start behaving like this.
It's shifting fine when the switch is OFF, although using it like this somewhat defeats the object of the clutch!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Take the cover off the clutch to see if the little metal U-shaped clip is broken?

You should be able to get a replacement part through your LBS if it is broken. If the mech is less than 2 years old you may be able to get it replaced under warranty with the shop you got it from.
