hi does any one know anything about servicing hubs with push fit cartridge barrings? Mine are very lose and I'm struggling to tighten them they have standard locknut's but these don't seem to Keep them tight.
Anyone able to help/ had the same problem.
Are you sure they're not loose ball cup and cone bearings?

if they are carts, you cant.
thats kind of the point.
tap them out, get the sizes off the outer race, and replace them.
then youve got a new hub essentially ๐

no they are definitely cartridge barrings.

Sounds as if you need new cartridges, remove the locknuts and tap the axle through from one side and it'll push the other bearing out(unless they're totally shot, and they fall to pieces),tap the bearing off the axle(rest the bearing on vice jaws or similar)and then tap it through the hub again and knock the other out.New bearings may be available from LBS (depending on size needed) or local bearing supplier/internet companies such as Simply Bearings.Ideally, use the correct size press to re-fit them, but a socket that fits the outer diameter will do the job(don't forget to fit the axle before you put the second one in).Heating the hub usually helps with tight bearing removal, you may also want to carefully prise out the new bearing seals and pack them with grease before fitting, as long as you don't damage the seal it'll help their longevity.

i bought a hope xc hubbed wheel off the classifieds on here, which was sold as "completly shot" as the bearings were siezed solid and the chappy couldnt get them out.
so i took on the challenge.
spent ALL day trying to smack them out with various hammers, soaking in penetrating lube, petrol, parrafin, the works.
NOTHING would budge these buggers.
In the end, i gave up and went for broke.
supporting the disk mounts on a big block of wood with a perfectly sized hole in the middle, and masking taped a small piece of ply over the upward end of the axel, to protect it from the hammer i had in mind.
full strength SMACK with a sledge hammer ๐
hit it bob on (thankfully, rather then plowing through the spokes) and out they popped.
easy as pie, no damage to anything.
new bearings were just as much of a twit to get in, but got a fresh wheel out of it ๐
