I found this video

showing you how to fully service a rock shox monarch, it looks very similar to the fox float, anyone serviced a rear fox float at home? The video says you can use air instead of nitrogen and use a shock pump with an adaptor, anyone tried this?
Could you change the oil without letting out the nitrogen? would the piston bit shoot out? Anyone know where to get the adaptor for the shock pump and if its the same with a fox shock?

Thanks,

In theory yes, however you'd need the correct seals, oil and would need to know the correct height for the IFP.

could you not leave the ifp out and fill the shock to the top with oil? the nitrogen is there to stop the oil foaming because of its small volume (if i remember rightly) but couldn't you just service more often and wouldn't the extra volume of oil go someway to stop this happening so quickly?

No that won't work, you need the IFP with pressure behind it for the shock to work.
