i've gone for specialized crossroads armadillo! 1.95 not ridden yet but look sweet!
If you can get in your size Schwalbe marathon supremes are the business, use on my cross bike - more of a slick only but great puncture protection and miles faster than other versions of the marathons. Grippy even on greasy tarmac.
