I am selling my camber Evo and single speed, both in excellent condition. Advertised here and pink bike. Why are there so many time wasters? Ask me a question that's fine, but why commit to buying then pull out because ( insert any reason from haven't got the cash to just not bothering to get back in touch again). I always try and keep people informed when buying and selling and be upfront. Anyone else have the same difficulties or am I being picked on!!
No mate its happened to me with my Ibis Tranny frame. All set with payment details and then silence.
Yeah, I get them too, especially on Pink Bike.
I've sold much more on pb than here by far as in big items like frames and whole bikes. Although I've bought much more on here.
Yep happened to me, selling turner other week. Yet luckily I had a decent fella buy it for his son in the end. Thanks.
OP wishful thinking people want to have you take the bike off the market but then realise they cannot afford it
You could always try a cheeky bit of gorilla advertising in the main bike forum 😀
I like the idea of gorilla advertising, I will have to try that.
OP having sought out your ad I thin what Imsaid is true, there are lots of people who would like a nice nearly new bike but can't afford £1500
I got the run around last time I sold a frame by 3 different buyers so badly I almost kept it! There can be a lot tyre kickers on the classifieds either window shopping out wishful thinking. Now I try and look for wanted ads or subtly astroturf. As long as you don't take the Piss its a lot more effective.
It's why I have an attic full of frames and wheels and a workshop full of part used components. Can't be bothered with the pisstakers.
It gets sold on rarely, usually to mates who are short of a couple of bits to finish a build, or short of cash.

I'm not the only one then

Glad it's not just me 🙂
I think some times they just want to look at other peoples bikes they have no intention of buying it very strange.
My Camber Expert 26er is still sitting with me after I took a deposit and waited on it being collected.
7 weeks!!! Finally the guy says he doesn't want it after all.
Dibs on the gorilla. E-mail in profile.
What pisses me of is when you respond to a wanted add and get the same treatment.*
*Goes back to just giving stuff to mates with no money or just tripping over it in the garage...
Cashless negotiations are wholly unfulfilling. I am really enjoying the low low offers that state they can collect quickly.
puts on ad for £200
receives offer for £7.50
lengthy negotiations ensue via email over many days leading to a fair price being agreed and postage options assessed.
sorry mate, just realized im not going to be able to get the cash until 2019. good luck with the sale anyway.
wicked, cheers.
On the other hand, I've had the seller get arsey when I've asked for photos, ("email me for photos" in the for sale thread) or asked some questions because the supplied photos were low res junk.
Just because I've shown a bit of interest doesn't mean I'm going to buy it regardless. If the emails go backwards and forwards and I pull out then I'll say "thanks, but no thanks". But I've had proper ranty emails from sellers for "wasting their time" just because I've asked for photos. If you're going to be a **** then put them in the advert.
I'll agree there are time wasters on the Wanted section though. I've replied on the thread, maybe emailed if there's one in their profile, often not. Tumbleweed. Deathly silence.........
Pinkbike has epic timewasters. But also, it's hard to tell genuine from timewaster over there, when I sold my Dare I really thought the guy was trolling, I was more or less just spinning him along and trolling him back them all of a sudden I'd sold it 😆
Hi seller
I would like tell me what condition item in and you ask latest best price. Also send pic.
Time wasters are not a new thing, they also existed pre internet in local ads.
An easy way to avoid them, sell on eBay with Buy It Now and tick immediate payment meaning they can not 'win' the item without paying at the same time.
I had it with a frame recently. Not all time wasters but I even had one bloke come around have a sit on it and then tell me he was going to buy a new one!
Kept it in the end, too much hassle.
The number of times this happens:
- Put second-hand bike on my website, with loads of pictures and full spec
- Get email saying "I'm interested in the bike, can you send me pics and full spec?"
- Email them a link to the page with pics and spec - the page they must have seen as it's the only page that mentions the bike.
- Get email saying "great, thanks"
All I can think is it's people who haven't grasped the concept of a link on a webpage - they visit the first page, see a link to "second hand bike", and somehow don't work out you can click links to see more stuff.
You laugh, but I've had several conversations on the phone with people, talking them through something on my website, and it turns out they've never clicked on a link, they just type addresses in the address bar.

'My website's disappeared! It's been hijacked by [business directory]!' Turns out it meant they were no longer on page 1 of Google 🙂
selling my road bike a few months back I had a bloke who was going hot and cold on the purchase. I finally called him to ask whether he was still interested, only to have the phone answered by his missus. It's fair to say she was entirely unaware of the proposed transaction and somewhat displeased by the idea of the chap buying another bike.
A bike's not sold until cash received. Ad stays up until a deposit or full thing paid. No deposit returns. No staying in for a viewing, set a time that suits you for viewing. Keeps it nice and simple.
There are a lot of time wasting sellers too.
It's a pain, but just realise that committing to buying is paying.
Don't promise anything to anyone apart from: If you send me the agreed cash, it's yours. In the meantime, it's still on the shop shelf.
Talk is cheap! Don't get drawn into promises. People are only "pulling out" if they've already paid, otherwise they're not involved.
There's no concept of good manners. I have an African friend who told me recently that when she was child Britain was always held up as a place where people treated each other with courtesy. Living in London now she says you seldom see courtesy.

How random is that?
How random is that?
Potato, banana, turnip.
More randomer ,Hat (though I expect more from you....potatoes and turnips both being root vegetables).
Yeah but it has got worse with people using email and not having to commit to driving to your house/premises.
Some of the muppet questions, which were listed in the spec, and meet me @ jct whatever on the motorway for things costing 15 quid!! I despair at the level of @rseh0le chancers in this world, it genuinely seems to have got worse IME.
Oh I love a drug deal car park handover! When i bought my 224 I met the guy on a motorway flyover bridge, it was like a hostage exchange.
I once sold a guitar bridge, and thematically the chap asked me to deliver meet him in the car park just under the forth bridge, in north queensferry. Accidentally interrupted a weed deal trying to find him. "Get the **** out of here if you know what's good for you man" "Yeah yeah, soon as I find my guitar dude, we're all businessmen here".
But how often do you get a banana between your two root veg?
Not often enough i'd wager.
