Hoping I might try this on Friday Winchester to Eastbourne.

How are conditions - I am hoping dry!

How navigationaly challenging is it - never been anywhere near there before.

Can't be too bad as Chris Noble did it in 8:20 last week. -

Eastbourne end on Saturday, was dry on exposed sections, mud and standing water under tree cover. Not much rain this week.

The hills will be fine, save some energy for the last two, nice climbs out of alfriston and jevington. Let's hope the wind is behind you.

Standing water ffs

It takes a long long dry spell not to have a few standing water spots on the south downs - I live a couple of miles from the SDW in the Petersfield area and one of my runs has a muddy patch 12 months a year.

Saying that - it's pretty good at the moment and looks like it'll only get better over the next 12 days with no rain forecast.

Nav is a doddle. Knowing where the water taps are is the useful key info.

Out in the open it'll be mostly dry and fast with some puddles, where there are trees or shaded bits, they'll be still damp and a little muddy / claggy.
