Did anyone else do the Sam Houghton MTB Challenge in The Lakes yesterday? It was my 8th one, and as usual, a great day. Well organised, beautiful scenery, good cake, and lots of flat tyres on the Garburn Pass.
Apart from a brief thunderstorm, the weather was great too.
The rain was nice though ๐

Yep, great day and all for a good cause. The big fat raindrops in Troutbeck were very welcome, as was the sunny evening with beer and band back in Staveley. Top day out.
Started late 1.20pm due to work load so opted to ride the route to the Mortal Man to meet some friends who always detour for a couple of pints so got an absolute drenching as I left. Riding was interesting on my Cannonade Slate and a gashed elbow is stinging today.
Cracking band in the evening
Great organisation and cake
Great event, a nice day for riding a bike, eating cake and drinking beers.
It was my second one, was 40 mins quicker this year, still pretty slow though! Can't believe how fast some people bash round.
It's a really great day out, for a great cause and it seems everyone just has a great time, even the marshalls stood out in the middle of nowhere all day!
I rode through a farm just as the owners came out to feed the chickens and they were shouting and cheering me on which really made me smile.
Will be signing straight up for next year as soon as I can. And I got STW to thank for putting me onto the SHC in the first place, wouldn't have known about it otherwise.
Might be of interest to people who took part, not a race but a chilled weekend biking around routes in the area.
The same camping field with posh toilets and a shower ๐
