Anybody know if Ryanair are strict on the 20k allowance for bikes and what the excess per kilo is ? I have tried contacting them but no joy, they say a max of 30k for a bike but it is not clear if this is still paid for over the 20k.
I flew with them last month and they didn't bother to weigh the bike box heading out from Standsted or returning from Perpignan.
I guess I might have just been lucky, but I've never had it weighed whichever airline.
Just make sure you print out your boarding passes. They charge £40 if you forget.
Flew to Sweden and back with bikes this year. They weighed the boxes carefully both ways and charged excess over 20kgs. Not sure how much the excess was, not cheap tho (maybe £20 per kilo or something)
I flew Ryan air with a bike about 3 years ago. Had a bike bag (with two bike squeezed in plus some other bits) which came to just under 30 kg. Then had 15 kg of normal check in luggage. No problem, arrive early as checkout opens, have T&C printed out, be polite. We paid extra for the bikes under some sports equipment thing, I think it was about £20 each way.
we went to france to do an adventure race earlier this year
the excess was £700 @ £20 per kg
on the way back we realised they weighed the bike bags then gave them back to us
so we emptied the bike bags they weighed them then we refilled them then put them on the plane
