After an awful winter looks like the snow/ice/grit etc has taken it's toll on the axles of my egg beaters, they're only about 8 months old and rust seems pretty excessive.... Do you think i'll be able to send 'em back and get a new pair...Thoughts/opinions?

cheers

It's worth a shot, maybe? 2pure are fantastically brilliant on their customer service to be honest. If the rust has come through the finish somehow, without being caused by wear from the shoes rubbing on the axles etc., then I think you've got a case. Otherwise, it's probably just wear and tear, I guess?

Other wise, do what I do - and treat the rust patches with anti-rust gel (from Halfrauds).

Had similar problem on one of a pair of Candy C's a couple of years ago.

They were a bit over a year old (2 year warranty) so sent them back to 2Pure to see what they would do. They serviced them but didn't replace the axle. Maybe they would have done if I made a bit more of a fuss. They seemed to think it was my fault for not servicing them. I know this because the customer service guy inadvertently forwarded me an e-mail from their service department stating as such.

The bearing on one of the wings seized about 6 months later so I binned them. Never getting Candy's again unless they change the design.

Don't clean the rust off - it's probably holding them together.

Getting worse methinks. Bearing in mind these were bought mid August!

Yeah.. the road salt's been pretty vicious to mine too! But that looks quite bad - from August..! It looks like the pedal axle in particular has simply rusted of its own accord - I can't see any shoe-sole rubs that would contribute to that. I'd get in touch with 2pure and see what they can do - I emailed Ran.

They look like they might be egg beater MXRs(?), which, to be fair, are a bit cheap and nasty... 'Beater Cs, or SLs are a little better made than that.

Yeah - I had to "borrow" a set of MXRs one evening and there was a bit of a sweep on whether they would last a whole ride.

My C's have been going great guns though.

Should've got the stainless ones.

The cheaper ones actually rust WHILE you're riding and the bearings implode around 13 months after you bought 'em.

The MXRs only have a twelve month warranty but the others have 2 yrs.

My advice: claim new ones after 10 months use and repeat as long as you can be bothered.
