I have a set of sq taper Middleburn RS7s with a 4-arm XC spider and I am thinking about getting a Pauls Components Chain Keeper so I can run the bike 1x9. I am sure i've read somewhere that people have had problems running the Pauls with a Middleburn and had to 'modify' the design somehow.

Is anyone running this combo and if so did you have any troubles when setting it up at all?

The frame as a 73mm BB shell and as its a sq taper bb I have no spacers so can't run something like the mrp 1.x or Superstar XCR so feel the Pauls is the way to go.

I would have thought it would be fine, you should be able to adjust it to clear the spider. You could always run a Uno or Duo ring for a cleaner look.

using that ring does look cleaner but I thought someone had had the spider catching on the chain keeper but were able to adapt it somehow to work. I guess I could always try raising the keeper a bit to see if it runs ok. might risk losing the chain if its too high tho.

Has no one else used this combination with the XC spider?

Could it have been me you were thinking of? I had chainline trouble with an e.13 XCX and middleburn RS7s and posted a thread moaning about it. The chainkeeper was suggested as the solution to my problems. Obviously the real solution was that I 'needed' a new chainset ๐Ÿ˜€

Surely if the spider was catching you'd just mount the chainkeeper a little higher, or have I missed something about how they work (I've never seen one in the flesh)?

it may have been that I was thinking about.

if the chain keeper is raised up then it surely wouldnt keep the chain on as securely? thats my worry.
